Valin, Shir Endellion's top student, fought over the direction the The House of The All-Seeing Orb . Valin accuses Shir Endellion of breaking her oath and being swayed by Marilyn (Freda). After the fight, Valin was wandering the streets of Waterdeep and was pulled by a voice to enter Zed’s Mystical Goods. Inside the store, the Canopic Being (a book) calls out to her. Valin stole the book fleeing out of the store. While reading the book, Valin hears a voice telling her its time to transform to stop Shir. The voiced guided Valin and Valin was able to lure those who the book chose to be part of the sacrifice. Valin was able to obtain the organs she needed except the heart of stone. Valin returned to her chamber to find a gnome (Nebel) stealing the Canopic Being. Valin thinking Shir had discovered her plan broke into Shir’s office and stole the Silver Bowl to escape into the demiplane where she would be safe to finish her plan.

Valin was in the process of becoming a mummy lord when the group entered the demiplane and confronted her.
