Discovery
During a expedition into the forest two explorers saw a bright red bud sticking out, though something was odd. It was eating the decay of the other plants on the forest floor and once they saw eat a decaying animal. They had looked at each other and one said "I think its a flower." Before the ecosystem changed, they observed the flower and watched it keep doing this. They left and came back, this time getting closer to the flower. Neither wished to find out what happened if their hand got too close to the flower in case it liked fresh meat. Due to an unfortunate event with a different researcher losing their hand, they found out it indeed likes fresh meat as well especially when provoked*1
The plant stands at between one to two feet in height from stem to top of the flower depending on how much rot it has to feed on. The leaves are a emerald green and five inches in length and an inch across.
Growth Rate & Stages
The plant takes two months to fully mature into the foot tall plant if it has enough rot. Without enough rot, it can wind up dying. Usually instead of waitng for rot, it well kill something and then wait. For a plant it is rather smart and shows that it knows when it needs food more then other plants. It is also more likely when provoked to attack back. This time a different researcher in the same lab as the one who lost their hand, put a plant eating animal in with it. Finding out that it well kill its prey and wait for it to decay. Though, most the research was lost due to a accident at the lab.

*1The researcher had transplanted the plant into a lab. The plant was subdued to tests. After a while, like any species with some sentience, it rebelled and ate the researchers hand enjoying it.
