Bronze Star

The Bronze Star is a dogmatic organisation opposed to magic in all forms

Structure

The Bronze Star is comprised of a small core of travelling fanatics, led by a charismatic individual who has identified themselves by many different names. The core group numbers around 300 but as they travel they acquire followers who stay with them for a time and leave when they feel they have contributed enough to the cause. Members of the Bronze Star can be difficult to identify. During normal daily activities their members will be indistinguishable from your average resident but only when they assemble as a group, with the intent of carrying out an action will the members wear a bronze star attached to their clothing, normally over the left side of their chest.

Culture

The organisation relies on a strict set of dogmatic beliefs regarding the end of the Last Age, believing it to have been cause by magic. They travel the world espousing this beliefs and taking whatever steps they can to ensure the residents of whatever town they're in agree. As a result of this they have made quite a few enemies within the magic user community, especially within the various religious organisations which use the power of their gods to carry out their work. The Bronze Star are against magic as a whole, no matter where it comes from or what form it takes.

Public Agenda

The Bronze Star believes that as magic was the cause of the Fall of the Second Age, it should be removed entirely from the world, and if not, be heavily regulated and subject to strict governmental oversight. They will journey between towns and villages searching for those with latent magical abilities and ensuring they cannot become powerful magic users. When the group finds a competent magic user they take steps to ensure they won't be an issue, offering many the choice between their life, or maiming in a way that stops them from using magic again. The organisation have also developed a skill in destroying any magic or enchanted items that they come across, believing that some items are too powerful to be allowed to survive and that it's better to take no risks.

History

The Bronze Star has existed in one form or another for as long as people have thought about what came before them. In their travels they have made many enemies and many friends, but due to the nature of their nomadic lifestyle it has been difficult to capture anyone in charge. Some kingdom's don't see them as an issue as they don't rely heavily on magic whereas some kingdoms who rely on magic for transportation, medical provision or advice on policy have committed large resources to hunting them down.
