Celestials

Celestials are believed to be the oldest race of beings in the world. Before elves, before gods, there were celestials. Celestials are a primal race, they act according to their kind and very rarely can act against their nature. There are four principle orders of celestial. Angels, representatives of law and dominion, hierophants, representatives of law and desire, eldersthings, representatives of chaos and decay, and demons, representatives of chaos and decadence.   Celestials despise other celestials of different orders. This lead to a war that lasted millennia before the gods put an end to it by sealing them away into separate planes of reality, Aether for angels, quintessence for heirophants, abysarium for elderthings, and the nether for demons.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Angels are bizarre creatures in their true forms. They appear to be made of metal, with intricate engraved designs. They lack any coherent body structure, with some being little more than giant metal heads with blade like wings. Often parts of their body can open up through hinges to reveal magical weaponry hidden beneath their skin.   Hierophants however are truly nightmarish to look upon. Hierophants embody desire and indulge themselves with almost every sensation available to them. What these creatures looked like originally is unknown, for they have so thoroughly mutilated themselves and each other through sadistic rituals little remains of their original appearances. Skin is pealed back from the bone by hooked wires and twisted spires of barbed wire criss cross through their flesh. While, most hierophants appear to be bipedal, some have been seen to walk on all fours.   Elderthings are the most bizarre of all the celestials, they are often described as being formless masses of flesh and mouths that are constantly forming and unforming. They rarely have concrete forms of which to describe, although the oldest and strongest of the elderthings, Janus, is said to resemble a great stone ziggurat with invisible tendrils lashing out from it in every direction.   Demons are wild and unpredictable creatures, and their appearances are no different. Similar to elderthings, demonic forms rarely have the solid consistency of other creatures. Their limbs can stretch, and their bodies seem to be strangely malleable, with some expressing discomfort at after having collapsed a wall onto a demon, it just walked out from underneath the rubble as flat as a pancake but no worse for wear. They are also described as being overly colorful and vibrant, to the point they almost don't look like they belong in the natural world.
