The Necrotic Wastes

The Necrotic Wastes are a region surrounding the Clockwork Empire. A putrid, foul smelling, land created by the god Diavalo during the Cataclysm. Originally, a barren stretch of land, scared and irradiated by powerful necrotic magic, over the centuries, the hostile environment of the necrotic wastes have led to a very different breed of creatures, specifically mutated and evolved to live within its borders.   During the Cataclysm, millions died on this old battlefield. Monsters, dragons, angels, demons, and even the corpses of gods fell to the ground burning with the cold heat of necrotic fire. In the years afterwards millions of creatures have wandered into the necrotic wastes to scavenge on the dead, only to succumb to its toxic atmosphere themselves, adding to the corpse piles. The ground here is spongy and uneven from the layers of rotting corpses. The valleys and canyons that scar the landscape are filled with a toxic miasma from the rotting corpses.   An occasional drugar shambles through the blighted landscape, hunting for anything that may live in this place. While other more hideous monsters prowl the wastes, devouring corpses and any who would be so foolish to attempt to loot many of the ruined towns and villages that dot the land. There are two roads leading through the wastes. Constructed and maintained by the clockwork Empire. These roads are elevated walkways leading directly to and from their capital, Simmsmout, located at the sea on the very edge of the wastes. The other two Imperial cities in the Necrotic wastes, Diggersveil and the Boneyard are only reachable by taking a train from Simmsmout, across the bay to Diggersveil, and then onward to the Boneyard. To venture off of the beaten baths in the wastes, is considered suicide by all but the most hardy adventurers.

Geography

The Necrotic Wastes are a mixture of tall mountains, and deep ravines. The landscape looks as if the ground was torn apart at random. There are expanses of planes only to end in a sudden 100ft drop offs into toxic marshes, and tall mountains surrounded on all sides by deep valleys.

Fauna & Flora

Strange blood red plants grow among the piles of bones and rotting flesh. An ocasional withered tree with twisted roots stands within the piles of rot.   The animals who live here are almost exclusively carnivarous, living off of the bones and corpses of the wastes, and eagerly devouring any so called explorers. Many of these creatures appear monstrous and raw, such as the Agrarandar, a large four legged creature with sharp retractable claws on its paws, and wicked teeth growing not only out of its jaws, but also out of its tail. But most notably, is its revolting skinless body, showing its blood red sinew and its white tendons to all who stare in horror at it.

Natural Resources

The lands of the Necrotic Wastes are rich in iron which is mined at Diggersveil and the Boneyard for use in the factories in Simmsmout. Furthermore, for those who can survive the wastes, a number of pre-Cataclysm ruins dot these lands, offering the promise of valuable trinkets and long lost technologies.
