Lord Ambrose Faulconbridge

Ambrose is a cold and calculating man who values his family's wealth and power above all else. He is fiercely ambitious and ruthless in business, willing to do whatever it takes to expand the family's holdings and maintain their status in Ironshore. He is a skilled administrator and an astute business man, who made the start of his family's fortune by shrewdly investing in the local iron mines, and the Royal Port. He maintains his current fortune through cutthroat means, by managing real estate throughout the city. He resents his eldest son Caius for being born 'cursed' as he calls it, which he sees as a liability for the family's reputation. Ambrose is also deeply controlling, both in his business dealings and in his personal life. He sees his wife Isabella as a tool to advance the family's interests, and she fears him as a result.

Lady Isabella Faulconbridge

Isabella is a timid woman who has been crushed under the weight of her husband's authority. She is deeply unhappy in her marriage but feels powerless to leave, both because of her own lack of agency and the expectations of noble society, and because she dares not leave her children alone with him. Isabella is a talented artist, but her creative pursuits have been suppressed by Ambrose's disapproval. She loves her children fiercely but struggles to express her affection in the face of her husband's strict rules.

Lucian Faulconbridge

Lucian is the family's golden child, groomed from a young age to take over the family business. He is intelligent and driven, with a natural talent for negotiation and deal-making. He has a tendency to favor his father's colder nature, and it shines when he assists in his father's business. Lucian is aware of his family's corrupt practices but believes that the ends justify the means. He is ambitious and ruthless like his father, but also has a soft spot for his siblings, whom he sees as his only true allies in a world of backstabbing and manipulation.

Sofia Faulconbridge

Sofia is the youngest child and the only daughter of the family. She is intelligent and independent, with a sharp wit and a rebellious streak. Sofia is interested in history and mythology, and she spends a lot of her free time reading books and exploring the city's museums and archives. She is also an excellent rider, who enjoys going on long horseback rides with her father and her brother Lucian. Sofia is fiercely independent and has a rebellious streak, which sometimes gets her into trouble.
