Hau'i was born in a tribe of water Genasi known as the Kenakina who live in the eastern ocean. Hau'i had a warm upbringing with her tribe and lived in relative harmony with the sea with little threat other than the odd Sahaugin or Pirate.
As is the tradition of her people, Hau'i went onto pilgrimage once she turned sixteen. It was three weeks after her sixteenth nameday that the Kenakina met the Oleana to trade. Hau'i joined the ship and very quickly gained a new perspective on the darkness and dangers that existed for a young Genasi in the world.
