Cloud Sugar

Sweet Rain

Written by Endrise

I wouldn't call it that filling as a treat, but it does help during heatwaves.
— A Sweet Tooth

Cloud Sugar is a delicacy found in the Plane of Air, known as a common dessert amongst the natives. Sweet yet light on calories, providing a snack that is easy on the stomach.

Picked From the Heavens

Many see it as a simple snack that anyone can produce in the realm's upper regions. Essentially water mixed with local fruits and sweeteners, its easy recipe is the reason why it is so popular.

At the same time, it is also a light-weight snack, making it quite harmless to eat lots of it. With most of it being water, calories are non-existent, even with the added sugars.

Flavours

Its popularity amongst the masses leads to the invention of countless flavours. Regional flavours sprout up across the realm, putting their own twists on the sweet snack.

  • Thundercloud: Adds a fizzling aftertaste to it, giving a sparking sensation on the tongue. Comes in a darker yellow colouring with the preparation.
  • Gum: Gives it a pink colouring and sticky nature. Chewable like bubblegum and even allows one to blow huge bubbles with it.
  • Blizzard: A mint flavour adds an extra cold touch to the frozen treat.
  • Twister: An unique approach where two flavours of Cloud Sugar get swirled together into a single mix. Distinct by the two spiralling colours of the snow.
  • Acid Rain: A sour taste obtained by adding lemon into the mix.

Production

Cloud Sugar gets made by taking snow and forming it into a solid shape. Sugar and other ingredients to provide flavour are added, stirred together to create the dessert. Adhesives help prevent it from falling apart or melting too fast.

Some go the extra mile to harvest snow clouds, if not flash freeze regular ones to gather snow that way. While not as easy to produce by everyone, it makes it easier to gather snow.

Scoops get served in either a bowl or on a stick.
