Cold Iron is a material forged from regular iron with an ability to disrupt chaotic forms of magic. Known as the bane of Demons and Fae alike, people use it to fight these outsiders or keep them in check. Forging their blades in it, ensuring their threats are minimal.

Processing iron ore into Cold Iron is a long and difficult progress. One takes regular iron and melts it down on its exact melting temperature. The exact measurements are crucial, as anything too hot can remove the unique properties associated with Cold Iron.

A lot of patience is mandatory for one to produce a proper quantity. Out of a kilogram of normal iron, only fifty grams may be useful as Cold Iron. Though someone with experience making the mineral can double or triple that quantity if done correctly.

Dull, Basic Metal

An ingot of Cold Iron is mundane for anyone who doesn’t look at it. Smooth surface with few imperfections, no weird colorations or texture. One can confuse it easily for regular iron.

The difference lies in its touch, with it remaining cold to the touch. Even after heating up, it cools down quickly, staying just below room temperature. Hence why it gets called Cold Iron.

The Bane of Chaos

Cold Iron is highly resilient against anything that tries bending its internal logic. By that, it means that nothing capable of altering the properties of matter can affect it. From transmutation spells to reality bending events, Cold Iron will keeps its traits.

This makes it also able to harm chaotic forces such as Fae and Demons with ease. Equipment made from the metal does not bend to their will, and as such stands a chance against their powers. Both in containing said entities, and dealing physical harm to their bodies.

Its effects also can spread to users, protecting them against many body-altering spells. But it has its limits, making strong enough magic able to ignore Cold Iron’s effects.
