The Dragon That Ate the Sun

Heat Death

Written by Endrise

Why should we worry? Even if he did manage to eat a whole star, it would take millions, if not billions of years before everthing cools off to disasterous levels.

The Legend

On the plane of fire, there is a legend regarding the end of the world. One of many assumed beliefs of how a realm of fire and flame would cease to be, with this one regarding the dragon that ate the sun.   During the early eras of the realm, one story recalls the presence of a dragon as tall as a mountain with a breath that could scorch anything. Seeking to prove his flames burn the brightest, the hottest, that no heat was stronger than his. Something that remained unchallenged for multiple centuries as he pridefully wore that title.   That was, until one traveller called out that above the ashen clouds sat the sun, whose flames were strong enough to ignite a whole world. A challenge deemed worthy according to the dragon, spreading his wings and surging through the cloud layer. He swore to not leave the sun before its flames were to be extinguished, and only his fire may burn the fiercest in the whole cosmic hourglass.

The Apocalypse

For most, the story ends there. A dragon that tries to challenge the plane's sun, and vanishing within the blazing ball of fire. Though with no evidence whether he died or not, some assume he still roams in there, devouring the heat for his own and weakening the star from within.   Most speculate that the realm end would happen when the sun burns out, devoured by the dragon in its whole and plunging the realm in an ice age for the first time ever. And once the frost has slain most of the world, the dragon would plunge back to earth like a blazing star, bringing the heat of the sun to the surface and eradicating all the remains alive in this cold environment.   At least, that is what some consider the plane's end would look like.
