The Serpent's Gate

The Serpent's Gate is a rock-lined cape separating the Southern Territories from the Swamplands. It is inhabited by a massive dragon-like sea serpent that is famous for it's aggressive nature.
The Gate is the site of the former Castle of the Unseelie Queen that collapsed with her death leaving behind a stormy lagoon lined with jagged outcropping of large black rocks.

Geography

The Gate is a cape found between the continents of the Southern Territories and the Swamplands. It circles a lagoon left from the crater of a former castle. The cape consists on dark stone outcroppings jutting up from the sea and forming a small land mass circling the water.
They are intermittently broken by the sea to form gaps through which the lagoon can be entered.
The waters are known for being stormy and choppy no matter the weather and have no visibility from the surface.

Ecosystem Cycles

Many Fae have attempted to study the Serpent since it's initial appearance. They have never been able to record any findings on the large beast that surfaces only to attack. Any attempts to track it in the water have been foiled by the beast as it destroys any tracking equipment used.
The Serpent remains at depths so deep they have not even be able to find any other locations that it frequents. They know it must leave the lagoon as the cape borders have large gaps and the beast is too large to stay permanently. They know it must leave the lagoon but they have never been able to find where to or how it returns so quickly to attack intruders.

Fauna & Flora

The Serpent that guards the gate is a creature never seen anywhere else in the Fae Realm. It doesn't closely resemble any species of Fae creature and it is the only one of its kind to be seen. 
It is massive in size and length although its measurements have never been able to be taken or even estimated as it have never been fully seen.
The beast is deep indigo in colour and have fins covering its serpentine body.

History

The Serpent's Gate was originally the location of the Unseelie Queen's castle. Upon her death the castle vanished.
To be more accurate, the entire castle sank in one clean fall. Fae Folk inside the castle wrote accounts of how their minds fogged over in a manner similar to how humans describe being under glamour. After coming to, all the Folk were outside the bounds of the castle and watched the very land beneath the castle fall out from under it. The entire structure and the land it sat upon fell into the water and left nary a wave in their wake.
Left behind was a rocky outcropping outline of the land that wasn't sucked into the water.
Not long after the Serpent was spotted swimming in the lagoon and around its exits.
No one knows where the serpent came from but it surfaces to attack any who attempt to search for the fallen castle and even those who just seek to cross the water from the South to the Swamplands and vice versa.

Tourism

The Gate is typically avoided by those with any intelligent thought in their heads. Even other beasts avoid the place on instinct. Those who do choose to cross it as seen as foolhardy and idiotic. If one needs to travel from one Unseelie continent to the other there are other, less fatal methods. They may take longer but at least you will arrive.
