Trams
The trams in the falling city is, outside a few exceptions, the only motored vehicles still running on the streets. Transporting people to and from work, to and from shops or anywhere else people might want to go. The tram network covers almost the enitre city, meaning you're never more than maybe a kilometers walk to a tram station. Running at all times of day, its a familiar sight on the major streets and they're rarely empty as they snake their way along the roads.
Going on the trams is free for everyone to make getting to and from work as painless as possible for people and the city alike.
The trams usually consist of between 3 and 6 cars depending on which route it's driving. Each car can seat 20 people, and fit more if people are standing. The doors are manually operated by the people getting on and off to save electricity and for easier management for the driver. Each train only has one driver and they're in charge of the tram keeping on time and stopping at stations. Running on electicity, the trams aren't that loud, only making noice thanks to the friction againt the track and the cars moving around and dragging each other. Houses and shelters are however usually a bit of a distance away from the tram both for saftey reasons and so the large central roads the trams drive along can be kept clear for commuters and foot traffic to flow easier. During the winter some take the trams simply to warm themselves up a bit, as they both have heating and the amount of people in a car contributes body heat. The lights making the cars well lit also makes the ride a fairly nice place to socialize with other people during the darkest months of the year.
