Amarok

Amaroks are giant wolves that almost always hunt alone. It is unknown if they are simply wolves that have lived longer lives, or reached their size through magical means.

Basic Information

Anatomy

An amarok is similar to a wolf in all aspects except size and hunting pattern. Amaroks typically have black or even dark blue fur.

Genetics and Reproduction

Amaroks have not been seen to mate often, but it is assumed they reproduce like regular wolves.

Growth Rate & Stages

The unnatural growth of an amarok and the cause of such massive size is unknown. There hasn't been much study on it either; no one has successfully captured an amarok for research (and usually don't live to tell the tale of sighting it.)

Ecology and Habitats

Amaroks typically live farther up north, in forests or woods. An amarok will often make its den wherever it can find an existing crevice or an already-used den.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Amaroks will hunt larger animals like moose, bear, or sometimes other wolf packs. Though rare, amaroks have been seen in large packs only to hunt the largest prey: dragon. A single amarok's size pales in comparison to that of a dragon, but ten or more amaroks working together become deadly. Such an occurrence is exceedingly rare, however.

Additional Information

Domestication

There have been attempts to domesticate an amarok before, all ending poorly. Taming of an amarok is, at this point, purely theoretical.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Amarok teeth are considered a good material for knives, and amarok pelts can be used either as a status symbol or for warmth. Amarok meat is rare, but is said to be one of the more delicious meats available, and thus is in high demand.
