Golem

Golems are highly intelligent but typically silent automatons, capable of performing advanced tasks. Usually they are created by a golem magician, and sometimes abandoned after there is no longer a use for them. They can be created from almost anything, mud, grass, stone, iron, et cetera.   Golems are powered by a magical "core", typically an orb of some kind containing an immense amount of various magic, to give the golem personality, life, and purpose. If this core is destroyed, it is irreplaceable. No two cores are alike, and no two can be replicated exactly the same. The golem's physical form will remain lifeless, possibly for many millennia, until it can be found and reactivated.   A homunculus is a minuscule, delicate golem, often created for less important tasks like cleaning or sorting things. Only the steadiest hand can create them properly.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Golem design is highly variable, and greatly depends on the creator's tastes. However, golems will usually have four limbs. They will lack a nose, mouth, or ears, as golem makers simply don't see a need for them. Fingers will sometimes be disconnected at the joints, connected only by strands of energy, for those who have the materials and money. Occasionally, golems will be given the ability to speak, but this is rare, since most people who purchase or craft golems want a servant, rather than a companion.

Biological Traits

As long as a golem is well-maintained, they can live indefinitely.

Genetics and Reproduction

Golems will make more golems if commanded to, but often don't do a very good job unless they are made of a stronger building material. Golem-making is usually left to those who specialize in it.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Golems do not require food, but do require maintenance to ensure they don't wear down, get damaged, or run out of energy (if the golem requires consistent recharges.)

Additional Information

Domestication

Golems are usually created entities, and are therefore already domesticated; wild, naturally-forming golems may be trained, but are usually lacking in intelligence, and therefore, not worth the the trouble.

Facial characteristics

Golems will, more often than not, be lacking in ears, nose, or mouth, as they serve no function. Golems can understand commands regardless of whether they are given ears or not.

Average Intelligence

The weaker the material a golem is made from, the less intelligent and less control a magician has over it. Likewise, the stronger and harder a material, the more intelligent and bonded it is. A mud golem is essentially a waste of time. Stone or iron golems are generally accepted as the norm for a working golem. Steel golems are considered higher class, and are intelligent enough to do complex equations with relative ease. Titanium golems are considered a luxury; only the upper class of magicians usually have them. They are intelligent enough to assist with quantum problems and magical science - this is unnerving to some.   Gemstone golems are illegal due to concerns for public safety - they question why they take orders in the first place. Any gemstone golem found will be hunted down and immediately destroyed.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Golems are most commonly imbued with:
  • Illusion Awareness
  • Life Energy Detection
  • Magic Detection
  • Threat Identification
    • Power Perception
    • Scanner Vision

Civilization and Culture

Average Technological Level

Golems have not created any technology for themselves and do not use technology unless instructed. Depending on the building material of a golem, they will understand and be able to use technology of even the angels.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Golems typically do not speak, but can understand most, if not all languages.
