The Atmospherical Pull
A frequently asked question by children growing up in The Farlands is:
“Mummy, why do the islands float?”
The answer to that question is as follows:
In the outer atmospheric layer there has developed a gravitational pull. Although weak compared to the one at the centre of the atmosphere, it is strong enough to slowly pull the islands towards the void that is outer space.
It is said that originally The Farlands were just one big clump of land, which was slowly pulled apart by the atmospheric pull and made floating islands. One of the ancestors, who happened to be a scientist, noticed it and ordered that a weight be built to keep the islands from drifting further away. Thus, the chains that hang at the bottom of all islands were built and the islands drift no further.
