The Feywild is a plane that is the home to the fae and also the home of unusually potent magic. It is a land of contradictions: bright and yet dark, beautiful yet deadly, and full of endless wonder. Magic runs more freely and powerfully here than it does in most other planes of existence, and it is for this reason that so many of its inhabitants are magically gifted. The Feywild is also reputedly beautiful; filled with lush forests, beautiful springs, and groves that feel nearly divine. Everything in this realm is brighter and bolder than anything similar in Faerun. Many mortals find themselves visiting the vibrant plane unwillingly; fae portals usually being the most inconspicuous things in a forest. And once in the Feywild, creatures will often find it near impossible to want to leave.
Beyond the danger it’s inhabitants pose; with their fleeting flights of fancy and often bizarre desires, the vast wilds may prove to be far more dangerous to the ignorant. Monsters hide in every corner, prepared to strike when you're most vulnerable. The plant life could be deadly if the wrong one is touched or harvested incorrectly. Oftentimes the most danger is gilded in beauty, a way to lower the guard of those near it. If there is one piece of advice to heed if you find yourself in this strange land it should be this. Never allow the beauty of an object to cloud your judgment, or you’ll end up with a terrible fate. And in most cases, it is a fate worse than death.
The Feywild is divided into four separate courts, each aligning with one of the four seasons. There is the Summer Court; Autumn Court; Spring Court; and the Winter Court - though they no longer see themselves as a part of the other courts. Each court has a powerful fey that embodies each season. These powerful beings have been named Archfey. Some of them were powerful fey of many races, others were the awakened spirits of natural places such as forests or rivers, others the sentient incarnations of different types of animals, and others were noble eladrin so old and powerful they transcended the bounds of mortality. Though incredibly powerful, these beings aren’t nearly god-tier in their power - though don’t tell them that, at least to their faces. Their power aligns more with that of Demon Lords or powerful celestials. It is said, for any who desire, most Archfey are willing to form pacts with mortals, giving them power in turn for a life-binding deal.
These four courts fall into two larger courts, the Seelie and Unseelie Courts. Summer and Spring fall into the Seelie Court while Autumn and Winter are a part of the Unseelie Court. The ruler of the Seelie Court is Queen Titania, the Summer Queen and the ruler of the Unseelie Court is The Queen of Air and Darkness, her true name unknown. Despite popular belief, the Unseelie aren’t malevolent, just as the Seelie aren’t always benevolent. These beings simply represent the traits of each season, embodying those emotions one-hundred percent; black and white ideas of good vs. evil don’t exist here, just whims of fancy. Many fey gather and surround them both out of respect, fear, and community. Such entities can create pocket dimensions within the Feywild that fit the paradigms of their natures.
Titania rules the Summer Court and Oberyn, Titania’s consort, rules the Spring Court. The Autumn Court has no definite sovereign ruler. However, most often the two archfey Viridios and the Pumpkin King switch between ruling. Most often people assume - due to The Seelie Queen also ruling the Summer Court - that The Queen of Air and Darkness rules the Winter Court, that assumption is incorrect. Her current location is widely unknown, shrouded in mystery like most concerning the Unseelie Queen. The Winter Court is ruled by the Prince of Frost, the son of Queen Titania who is cloaked in tragedy. While none of the courts are in outright war, they are constantly dancing around each other in a game of politics. The only thing more dangerous than the wilds of the fae realm, are the political courts.
