Malzrog

Malzrog is a minor deity worshipped by the Mau orc tribe in the northern mountains of the Creeh continent. He is an Unsosen, and the leader of the Fellowship of Brutal Physicality. He is able to manifest himself physically on the Material Plane in at least some limited fashion, choosing to appear as a massive, muscular demon-like monster with horns six feet long and barbed skin.

Mau and Soular Power

Malzrog's relations with the Mau tribe are rocky.1 He and his fellowship have favored them - and all Orcs - because although giants are embodiments of pure strength, orcs are both strong and intelligent enough to build temples and participate in worship. The tribe had built and maintained Malzrog's Temple near their village, but it fell into disrepair and became infested with more “impure” specimens of giant kind, such as ogrilians, giants, and onis. In retaliation, Malzrog inflicted some kind of curse of weakness and infirmity upon the Mau tribe.

Upon Soular Power’s arrival in Mau, they were tasked by the Chieftain to clear out the temple with tribe prince Zuvilriun, in an attempt to get the tribe back into Malzrog’s good graces. As an offhanded slight to the tribe, Malzrog entrusted the overly eager Fritz with wielding his warhammer, Volendrung, over the tribe’s own Zuvilriun. On this excursion, Fritz’s poor luck (or brute strength) shattered Volendrung, and Malzrog, impressed, developed a strange affinity for her. He granted her a boon - greatly increased strength while within his temple - and endowed her with the title “Malzrog’s Chosen” and the Champion’s Armor.2

Malzrog quickly wore out his welcome with Fritz, who implored Zavala Stormrender to help rid her of the Unsosen’s forceful influences.3 Zavala, well versed in Unsosen matters, marked her forehead with sigildry that successfully prevented Malzrog from seeing or reaching inside Fritz’s head. His anger at this was quickly displaced onto the Mau tribe for their lack of devotion to him and the fact that they sent the weakest of their blood, Zuvilriun, to reclaim his temple, and he has not since attempted to regain contact with Fritz or the rest of Soular Power.

Worship and Associations with Morpheus

Malzrog's modus operandi is bold, impulsive, and emphasizes brute strength. He appears to have some under-the-table affiliations with the deity Morpheus, as hidden within his temple near Mau is a small Shrine to Morpheus.4 According to Morpheus's Hand, Morpheus put a hole between the plane of the Unsosen and the mortal realm specifically for Malzrog to gather worshippers to guard his temple and help gather acolytes for Morpheus. Malzrog is a sort of front for Morpheus, and being named a Chosen of Malzrog is the first step towards becoming a Chosen of Morpheus.

Despite this apparently symbiotic relationship, Malzrog does not seem aware of Morpheus’s temple-within-a-temple, as he becomes furious at the apparent realization that there is an area of his own temple within which his omniscience cannot see.
