The Origin

The Human Race of the Fold was the first true inhabitants of the world said to be created by Aon himself to live in harmony with each other and watch over and care for their world. As Aon was pleased with his creation he decreed Pnuema and Kardea also create helpers for their works. Pnuema then created the Elves to be teachers, leaders, and sages, 1while Kardea created the Orcs to take care of the land and nurture the cycles of life and death, and express the power in the cycle of existence through sport and challenge. However, Kardea soon became jealous of her brothers creation as she watched the Elves build more elaborate and beautiful structures and architecture to praise Pnuema and to Praise Aon. While the Orcs care over the cycle of existence was perfect, only the beauty of the Orcs individual appearance seemed to improve, not the land and not the glory of Kardea. As time went on Kardea became more resentful of her brother and eventually grew to hate him. After her hatred consumed her, Kardea planned to ruin the favor Aon had in Pneuma, so she began whispering lies to the leaders of the human nations. She deceived them into thinking the Elves would steal all of the glory and admiration Aon and Pnuema had for Mankind away from them. And so, the first war was waged with the Humans turning against the Elves and ruining the peace of the world. When the war had reached its climax Kardea sent her Orcs to slay those who still lived. However, she did not plan on the Humans and Elves puting aside their differences and fending off the Orc invasions. When Aon discovered Kardea's treachery he banished her to the center of the world never to walk its surface again. Over time Kardea's hatred changed to bitter and maddening lonliness. In her state of grief and loniness Kardea split herself apart into several lesser beings each one with a fragment of Kardeas true self. These fragmented beings would later be referred to as the old gods. While the old gods wandered "The Fold" however, the core of Kardea stays at the center of "The Fold". In response to Kardea's maddened division of self, Pnuema decided to give "The Fold" a means to protect itself in the form of the Magical Tapestry. With the creation of this Tapestry, and Aon's blessing Pnuema breathed life into the Weave and into the rock that followed the Weave's Ley Lines creating two immortal beings. Moradin, the steel father and Mystra the spark weaver. Their creation and subsequent copulation would create both the Dwarven and Gnomish races. The dwarves to build and mine and use their knowledge of such to aid the other races in defense of Kardea and the old Gods, and the gnomes to practice the newly formed magics of the world to aid the other races in their uses and applications. The creation of these new races would irritate the old god of fertility Sawth, who in a mindless fit of jealous rage, released a mass of fleshy spores that would eventually evolve into goblins. Eventually the goblin population would swell washing over the lands slaughtering everything in its path. In a desperate attempt to preserve the life of "The Fold" three mages Galbright the human, Shaevyl the elf, and Brozgon the Orc cast a spell crafted by the gnomes focusing its power through a staff created by the dwarves to break the tide of goblins. The spell worked as the goblins were disperesed with their numbers drastically thinned, however, the world was all but shattered leaving the land broken apart and seperated by vast waters. The same magic that divided the land also divided the humans granting some of them unique abilities and insights into the weave. The divided humans eventually became mistrusting of their counterparts and would leave civilizations behind to become more nomadic in nature. Much of what happened after the great split is lost to time. For several millenia the old gods wandered the earth swaying many to their worship until text from a disciple of Galbright was found warning of the old gods. Around these texts several human nations rallied in an attempt to rid themselves of the old gods and their influence. As time moved on, the old gods all but faded from memory and civilizations began to rebuild. The damage to the land, it's people, and the spirit of the fold itself has been forever changed.
