"The Rat King" Kayden Trapspringer (a.k.a. Little One, Halfling, "Oh Gods, he's casting Fireball!")

Kayden is possibly the grungiest halfling you've ever seen. His hair is matted and caked with the grit from dozens of scuffles and his face and arms covered with dirt spots and streaks reminiscent of a cheetah's spots. His eyes often dart around when he's unoccupied, as if he's expecting to see something lurking in a dark corner. Despite his grubby appearance, Kayden always tries to bring levity to most situations, aiming to get a chuckle (or even a groan) from his friends in order to lighten the mood. It takes a lot to get his face to drop its seemingly eternal smirk.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Kayden is a scrawny little halfling who perpetually looks like he hasn't eaten in days. Though of average strength, he is nimble even for a halfling with a hardiness akin to that of a starving animal who just won't give up the ghost.

Body Features

Kayden is on the taller side as a halfling, standing at almost 3 feet tall.

Facial Features

Kayden has thick reddish-brown hair that has clearly been cut by either himself or a blind beggar for a copper, with a short goatee to match. He has big pink-tipped pointed ears, as well as a bit of a button nose that gives him the signature child-like look common to most halflings.

Identifying Characteristics

Kayden has a scar through his left eyebrow, a souvenir from the first time he tried to steal his own meal after his brother Wylf went off adventuring, around when Kayden was about 14.

Physical quirks

Kayden hunches slightly when in close proximity of "normal" people (who average twice his height and five times his weight), ever wary of being trampled to death.

Special abilities

Despite his unkempt appearance, Kayden exudes the uncanny luck possessed by halflings to a degree so great that with a quick word of warning, he can even help his friends avoid catastrophic failure.

Apparel & Accessories

To say that Kayden's clothes - a dingy old robe that likely belonged to some long-dead gnomish wizard over a simple tunic, drab pantaloons held up by a length of rope, and a dusty old pair of gray, child-sized boots - have seen better days falsely implies that they've seen any good days since coming into his possession. The fact that he has taken on the mantle of "The Rat King" has helped delude him into thinking that his lack of hygiene (due to his hydrophobia) is part of this "aesthetic"; he even furthers this by using the magic vest that gives him the ability to cast Prestidigitation to magically make himself look even dirtier.

Kayden has a near-phobia of getting wet or being around water, avoiding any water that doesn't come in a waterskin. He nearly drowned when he was young, and barely knows how to swim even in theory.

His impatience (spurred on by his curiosity) has sparked more than one spelunking expedition, some of which have led to near-death experiences for him (taking a spear to the chest, accidentally reviving a flesh golem, signing up for a timeshare in Chult...).
