Defiance in Phlan - Quest 1 Report - After the Egg

General Summary

Although the party had to share a common bunkroom with several other adventurers, the evening meal was excellent and the atmosphere pleasant. As they were preparing to bunk down for the evening, one of Freona’s daughters peeks into the room. She calls a few of the adventurers into the hall. “Pardon my interruption,” says the halfling girl named Reece, one of Freona’s five daughters, just shy of adulthood. “A chap just came into the common room downstairs and asked me to fetch you. Something about some coin needing to change hands for an easy job.” She plays with her curly red hair nervously. The man in question sat alone in the common room, a hood pulled up over his head obscuring his features. When questioned, he identified himself as a member of the Harpers, an organization dedicated to fighting evil wherever it hides. He wore a brooch that confirmed his ties to the Harpers. He had a task for the party. He reported that the Harpers had recently intercepted a merchant attempting to purchase a red dragon egg. He asked the adventurers whether they would be willing to act as the merchant and his guards, and find out who was selling the egg. He also asked them to try and attach a silver pin to the sellers so they could be tracked and investigated. The party agreed to carry out the task and Elvis the Warlock volunteered to act as the merchant, being the most similar in looks and build. A reward of 200 gold was offered on successful completion of the quest. The party set off for the rendezvous point at a remote barn about 20 miles from town. The party moved into the barn and met with a cloaked elven woman flanked by several guards. Unfortunately the woman saw straight through Elvis' disguise and fled, dropping the bag containing the dragon egg. Her guards fought off the party whilst she made good her escape, but several hidden figures appeared from the rafters and attempting to steal the egg. The party fought off all of these attackers and managed to attached the silver pin to an unconscious guard, hoping he would make his way back to the sellers hideout. After a little further investigation of the barn, in an attempt to see where the woman went, the party returned to the Tea Kettle and met with the Harper representative. The egg proved to be a fake but he was pleased with the party's efforts and handed over the 200 gold, plus a healing potion for a job well done. He promised further work in future as soon as the party had begun to establish their reputation as a trusted group within Phlan.
