Silvanus

Silvanus is the god of wild nature, and typical of nature deities, some described him as being unpredictable, much like nature itself. Uniquely, Silvanus went through a change in identity over the years since The Long War .   During the conflict and for some time afterwards, he was known as the Old Protector. He was chiefly concerned with nature itself, specifically wild nature, in both its natural beauty and fierce savagery. When it came to nature itself, he cared greatly for maintaining a balance between growth and decay, water and drought, fire and ice — the natural cycle of life. This was considered to be his dogma and he was emotionally distant in regards to its necessity. With the apocalyptic environmental damage and upheaval caused in Brethiel during the Long War and the introduction of monsters and beasts, Silvanus discovered that the Children of the Benefactors were required as a counter, to continue the balance of nature. While humanity and the other races struggled to survive, it was said that in the direst moments nature seemed to interject: a tree would fall on an owlbear about to eat a halfling, a sandstorm would mask a trading convoy from orc raiding parties, and even flocks of birds distracting a dragon attacking a village. Settlements on the frontier took note, and began to worship Silvanus the Old Protector.
When the momentum began to shift towards the end of the Long War, so did the balance between the monsters and the Children. Silvanus reacted accordingly, and the Children fell out of his favor. This led some to view him as heartless, though in reality he valued all life, including the diminishing numbers of beasts in Brethiel. As the Children flourished, Silvanus protected them less, and he transitioned roles in the pantheon of The Holy Consortium of Brethiel . He is now known simply as Silvanus, and the worship of the Old Protector became taboo and largely unheard of.   Due to his complete focus on keeping the balance of nature in Brethiel, seeming to alternate between supporting the Oppressors and Benefactors, his standing within the pantheon is frequently put under scrutiny. His apparent indifference to the internal politics of the gods is believed to make him quite the deviant, but he never directly joined the Benefactors during The Great Schism and so he is still considered an Oppressor.
