Urbs Magna IX: When Seeking Revenge, Dig Two Graves First Report
General Summary
Alex arrived on the scene first. Teleptyon was a bloody mess and babbling incoherently in Eknoi, for a crossbow bolt had pierced his thigh not far from a major artery. The guard had heard the slaughter in the other rooms of the villa and was in the middle of barring the door to allow the lady of the house to escape before Teleptyon bumped into him. Alex stormed into the servants' quarters and slashed at the guard, but had foolishly not played to his strengths - stealth and missile attacks. Ükhilflin used the distraction Alex had created to leap at the hapless guard and tear out his throat. Alex chided the dog that her kill was only easy because he had been distracting the guard. She licked his face to steel his confidence and also gently patronize him. The gesture would’ve been welcome normally, but Ükhilflin's maw was a froth of blood, sputum, and tracheal cartilage; Alex accepted it for what it was, but reminded himself to rinse off in the impluvium if he got a chance.
Throughout the house the party heard the running of mailed bodies and the bolting of doors. Alex worried that someone would burst through the door in the servant’s quarters and melted into the shadows, but the occupants were fleeing the mayhem - not attempting to join it. Kegho and Asbjørn made attempts to bash down the door but it was well made and barred from the other side.
Brother Theo successfully removed the bolt from Teleptyon’s leg and restored him to full health through the grace of Maya. Teleptyon quickly stripped the guard who had shot him of anything useful and tossed the crossbow to the Oameni. From the south, another guard appeared wielding a crossbow. He fired at Brother Theo, and grazed the faithful chandler. Kegho came to his companion's defense. Ükhilflin got their first and was swiped across her snout. Kegho took violent exception to this slight and dispatched the guard unceremoniously.
The party moved back to the dining hall with Kegho guarding Flavio in his stupor. Brother Theo and Alex placed the dead in respectful positions of repose, particularly young Leo Kerularios, who was slain by his father. Asbjørn unlocked the door to his north and found a servant woman, buxom but plain, gibbering senselessly in the Eknoi tongue. Hearing a call for assistance, Teleptyon arrived to translate and she divulged that the master of the house had kept possessions in the cellar.
With this information, Asbjørn, Teleptyon, Alex and Ükhilflin descended into the cellar only to find it pitch black. A familiar shout from the depths rang out. Alex returned upstairs to light a torch in the kitchen oven and travled back down to light the way for the party as they followed the twisting, dank corridors of the cellar deeper to find cells in every direction. The prisoner shouted imprecations at Gallienus and his family, and Alex realized the prisoner was his sidekick, Elissa bas Sisa(person:d7824490-9f53-4813-b179-62c3feabc4bf). He warned the Nar huntress that he was with new companions, so to not be afraid. Alex called on Asbjørn to use the key to unlock the door. Elissa inquired as to what had happened to the Kerularios family, to which Alex pronounced them “mostly dead.” However, Elissa laid much of the blame for her suffering on Liberius, and while what she said angered Alex, what she implied enraged him.
It was at that point Alex vowed that Liberius needed to suffer.
Elissa did not believe that the other cells were currently occupied, but knew that the family kept much of their spoils somewhere else in the basement.
