Attunement is not able to be spread, although cultures throughout history have attempted to replicate the phenomenon with limited success.

Causes

Attunement occurs when a the soul of a selected mortal and the essence of a spirit merge during the second rise. It is unknown how a mortal is selected, but there are many theories, with followers of each performing unique ceremonies during the Month of Acumen.

Symptoms

When a being becomes attuned, they retain their mortal memories and emotions, but gain blessings from the spirits. Their body stops ageing, and they become immune from most conditions. They also gain knowledge of things that most mortals could not comprehend, such as the existence of other realms.

History

Attunement was documented to have occurred many thousands of years ago, during the first recorded second rise. It has been a recurring phenomenom since then, occurring when a second rise coincides with the Month of Attunement. However, other factors seem to be at play, as Attunement does not always occur under these conditions.
