General Protection Ward
Effect
Protection wards act as magical shields to protect the wearer from harm. General wards do not apply an effect to the attacker, but simply reduce damage done to the wearer.
Side/Secondary Effects
If the spell goes wrong, it can apply a weakening effect on the item/being.
Source
Most of the time, wards are placed on items that can be worn. Occasionally, a being's soul can become enchanted with a ward. This is a difficult operation, however, and includes risk of harm to the being.
Effect Duration
Effects dwindle over time, but usually remain in some form until the enchanted item is damaged or destroyed.
