Ties to the red skies.
The Butcher Boys are a group of workers who thread the line between street gang and apocalypses cult. They are known to take the absolute worst, most disgusting jobs at the slaughter-yards of Skyhome's Big Smog district for very little pay. They do this to steal whalebones for dark rituals where it is said they summon demons of the air to attack their enemies.
Structure
The Butcher Boys are organized into small cells of ten to twenty. No one is sure how many members there are, but most conservative estimates put the number at around 100 to 200. Their cells are scattered across the city, working odd jobs that no one else will touch.
Each cell is headed by a Ivoryman, who collects the spoils of his underlings gatherings and performs rituals. Most think that these individuals represent the closest thing the group has to leadership, while some say the Ivorymen serve a more powerful master: The Queen of Bones.
Culture
The Butcher Boys live in squallier, inhabiting abandoned buildings, hidden basements, and the dark places of the city. They wear jewelry made from bones of animals, particularly Whales, and some that look suspiciously like humanoid fingers.
Public Agenda
The Butcher Boys are tolerated by the city's wealthy as they are useful as scabs. When the United Labor Union calls a strike, the Butcher Boys are often brought in to plug up the labor shortage. This has earned them the ire of the ULU, who view them as traitors to the working cause.
But what the Butcher Boys really do is collect. They take things from their jobs. Disgusting things that no one will miss. Misshapen whalebones from the slaughter-yard, fat deposits built up in the sewer that have hardened into disgusting gems, the dried remains of rotting produce, and other things that no one in the right mind would value. Why they collect these things is unknown, but most believe that they're building up to something...
Meat is nothing without air. Once you stop breathing, you're nothing.
