Chalcedony Johnson & Mikos West
Chalcedony Johnson
The head of the UNISON covert operations bureau in Freedom City is Chalcedony Johnson, a seemingly young woman who is older than she looks. She is actually the daughter of Captain Griff Johnson, a WWII US Navy Captain and Auriana, a Utopian. When Johnson’s PT Boat was destroyed in a Japanese attack, a Utopian woman boating in the waters found and rescued him. They fell in love, and nature took its course. She kept her true heritage a secret from her husband and daughter, but raised Chalcedony with Utopian ideals. When Chalcedony grew up, a career in UNISON seemed the best fit for her beliefs. She is an idealist (and sometimes an argumentative one, especially when cynicism is expressed within earshot), but there is no question that she backs up her ideals with dedication. She is troubled by her mother’s disappearance; Auriana was forced to return to her people when the Utopians chose to cut off contact with the outside world. Auriana never had time to say goodbye to her husband or daughter. In Freedom City, Chalcedony works out of the Dakanan consulate, located in an adjacent building reserved for UNISON (their unofficial headquarters in Freedom City). She is extremely good at charming people, but has some problems with people ruled by realpolitik. Chalcedony is a beautiful woman and still looks to be in her late twenties, even though she has just turned 50. Six-feet tall, lithe, and smoothly muscled, she has neck-length dark brown hair, almond colored eyes, and a coppery complexion. On the few occasions when she is out of uniform, she usually wears a T-shirt and blue jeans.Mikos West
Chalcedony Johnson's second in command is an oddity: Mikos West, who, despite suffering from dwarfism (inherited from his mother’s side of the family), is both a brilliant inventor and a superb hand-to-hand fighter. Mikos is surprisingly laid-back about his size, jokingly calling himself “the world’s greatest little man of action.” A more practical person than Chalcedony, Mikos often helps her in situations where her idealism might get her into trouble.
