Evelynn
Queen Mother Evelynn Sidon (a.k.a. Lynn / Siren I)
Lynn Sidon, like many attractive, talented, young women, came to the Big Apple with big dreams of stardom. Unlike most, she achieved them, at least for a time, her sultry voice and striking looks making her a hit as a singer of torch-songs in the bars and nightclubs of New York City as war was brewing once again in Europe.
Her career blossoming, Miss Sidon was invited on a trans-Atlantic cruise as a guest and headline performer in the ship’s lounge. A German U-boat targeted and torpedoed the ship, which quickly sank. Although many on board managed to reach the lifeboats, Lynn was not among them. She grew numb in the icy waters and sank into darkness. The last thing she saw was a strange light and a handsome face looking curiously at her from the depths.
Although she didn’t expect to awaken, Lynn did, on a fine bed in a palatial chamber—underwater. To her shock, she was able to breathe. The handsome stranger of her vision appeared and explained he was Prince Thallor of the lost city of Atlantis. Often curious about the surface world, he observed the ship and heard Lynn’s singing, which enchanted him. He rescued her and recognized in her an ancient prophecy about a siren from the surface world.
So he took her to a hidden Atlantean temple where the prophecy was fulfilled and the power of the gifts of the Sirens infused her.
Although grateful, Lynn wished to return to the surface world. The Atlantean prince faced difficulties in his own kingdom—a coup and civil war—so they were forced to part. Sidon returned home with a story of a miraculous rescue at sea and began using her newfound powers to fight crime and saboteurs as the sultry Siren. She joined The Liberty League and served with them during the Second World War. Only after the war were Lynn and Thallor reunited. The prince reclaimed his throne and offered to share it with the siren who so enchanted his heart. So Evelynn became the first Queen of Atlantis born above the waves since the Sinking.
Although the blessings of the Sirens have endowed the Queen Mother with long life and vitality, she is still feeling some of the effects of age as she approaches her first century. Regal and proud, some lucky visitors still get a glimpse of the sassy dame who dazzled the boys in the Liberty League and on the USO tours. She advises her son as king and dotes on her beloved grandchildren.
