Lyonessean

The Lyonesseans (lee-oh-NESS-ee-ahns) are an offshoot of the Atlanteans, transformed by ancient magic into a hybrid race of merfolk, with fish-like lower bodies and humanoid upper bodies. They’re named for the legendary lost land of Lyonesse near the British Isles, linked with the Atlantean cities of the Tuatha De Dannan, who fled the destruction of Atlantis to settle for a time in ancient Ireland before retiring to the extradimensional realm of Avalon.
Lyonesseans primarily live in small nomadic tribes, only loosely associated with Atlantis, although they have occasionally sought the protection and mediation of the Atlantean crown in the past. A small number of Lyonesseans are found in the city of Atlantis proper. Lyonessean tribes tend to be matriarchal, often lead by a female mystic with some amount of magical skill, able to perform useful rituals or enchant items for the tribe.
