The West Bank
Land along the western bank of the River Jordan and the Dead Sea has been occupied by Israel since the Six-Day War in 1967. The United Nations recognizes part of the West Bank territories as belonging to the Palestinian people, and consider them “occupied territories,” while Israel maintains military and civilian control over the entire region. This has led to ongoing international disputes about the legality of Israeli settlement in the West Bank, making it a significant source of conflict in the region. Ironically, the West Bank contains some of the holiest sites in the Middle East, including Jericho, Bethlehem, Ramallah, and part of Jerusalem.
