Bloodless Palm

The Bloodless Palm is a unique, moderately-shallow salt lake (and occasionally surrounding salt flat -like areas) in central Balaqalneyis and the source of all of Icalar's salt. Balaqalneyis relies on this lake for its primary mode of currency and principal trade export. Here salt is known as Sal.   The first recorded reference to the lake was in 75AC where its first sighting from afar was described as "shaped like the resting hand of some great buried thing, its palm skyward and pale as though drained of blood" and from which its name was taken. As a unique geological feature -- there being no seas present in this world -- it is the subject of much mystery and legend, some regarding the undrinkable water as a warning but others regarding it as a gift. Capitalization on the salt as a spice began in roughly 200AC when cultural/spiritual wariness about the lake began to wane (helped by Sehndists' disregarding of it as a water source proper, and thus turning the 'liquid' into something else entirely).
