Ironwood
Ironwoods are a fairly common deciduous tree native to Unenshuut and small parts of Kiva, and account for the tallest and oldest trees in Icalar. Their wood is valued in building and furniture-making for both its strength, durability, and appearance.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Tendency to form single, non-split trunks and a sparse number of short upper branches that form a leafy canopy; incredibly deep root systems compromise for the risk of the canopy catching too much wind.
Biological Traits
Dark brown, fibrous bark that tends to come away in strips; the inner wood ranges from charcoal-gray to black. Its leaves are emerald green and turn orange in the Season of Closing, and are four-pronged, lacy fans. Toothed, thick four-petaled, white flowers with small red inner crown-stamens begin blooming toward the end of the Season of Opening and well into the Season of Ripening, and later produce heavy oval fruit with green-blushed orange or yellow skin with inner gold arils separated by white membranes.
