Oute (OOT)
Oute is an uncommon semi-precious stone found near-exclusively in Kiva; as well as featuring occasionally in jewelry it is carved into venia, a national special-occasion currency. Especially pale and violet specimens without inclusions are the most prized for venia, while deeper/brighter/interestingly-flawed specimens are saved for jewelry or trinkets.
Properties
Material Characteristics
Veins have a wood-like shape within other rock, with outer 'growth' surfaces typically having the most inclusions/flaws. The stone itself is soft and easy to polish smooth to a high luster or carve.
Geology & Geography
Vast majority of sources are in Kiva, but appear scattered and random. Veins are often stumbled into by sheer luck, but there does appear to be a correlation emerging between vein size and proximity to Tycephaur Lake. It is possible that more fertile sources exist deeper where Kivans have not previously cared to mine because of a nomadic surface-focused lifestyle.
History & Usage
Everyday use
Venia, jewelry.
Cultural Significance and Usage
Venia are an important, unique Kivan cultural item and are highly-prized by most households, who guard theirĀ spines orĀ spools closely. However, good-luck charms carved from oute are common, and wedding jewelry often uses oute beading.
Distribution
Trade & Market
Venias do not typically enter non-Kivan circulation; other products are not in high-demand.

To preserve color, oute items are best stored out of direct sunlight.
