Reedpearl

Reedpearl refers to the pale blue and lilac 'hips' produced by ladder-reed flowers after fertilization; these do not occur reliably in the wild but recent farming attempts in response to the demand for coarseweave are simultaneously producing an opportunity for hand-fertilization to increase the crop of reedpearls.    They are popular in Qalneyan cuisine either minced or finely chopped to use as a mild seasoning, and the popularity of dried stock in other countries is growing: they respond well to rehydration. They have a chive-like taste.
