Slickweed

Slickweed is an aquatic plant indigenous to the waterways and marshes of Unenshuut that has since spread to other areas of Icalar. Although it is considered invasive and prone to choking waterflow, it has enough economic value that harvesting tends to keep it in check.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Colonies of single plants root in fertile waterbeds, which then form webs of slender stems that produce four to ten narrow leaves close to the water's surface.

Biological Traits

Its overall coloring a a muddy greenish-brown; both its stems and leaves are coated in a slime that helps attract nutrient-rich debris. Its stems are slender, and no thicker than 0.5cm; they first grow to the water body's surface, and then its leaves sprout no lower than at half the water's depth. Leaves are between six inches and three feet long and are no wider than an inch, and have a wavy edge.

Ecology and Habitats

Though stiller water is preferred, such as in bends of rivers or ponds, it adapts well to faster currents.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

The whole plant is rich in iodine and other minerals, and often features in cooking (especially the leaves).   Its leaves are a component of inking algae alongside watergreen; inking algae in turn can be used for part of the ikam stone verification process.
