Thunderhead Stone
Thunderhead stone is a soft stone found primarily in western Kiva, particularly in the Horizon Watchers area.
Properties
Material Characteristics
Soft and thus prone to erosion; takes on a natural smoothness even prior to polishing.
Geology & Geography
The Horizon Watchers is the most common area to mine it.
History & Usage
Everyday use
Deposits are not typically large or common enough for the stone to be used in anything other than decorative items; it does, however, feature as an accent stone.
Cultural Significance and Usage
The Raille Stead use thunderhead stone for their traditional eyestones.
Distribution
Trade & Market
As an attractive and workable stone, trade outside of Kiva isn't unheard of; most trade into Ustraria and beyond occurs through Ocalin, who brought other countries' attention to it. However, distance and reliable mining -- especially under the scrutiny of Kivans and faun steads -- means supply tends to be unreliable.
