Crossroads of Sand

This is one of several reflections in the center of the "continent" which has the misfortune of being a battleground for the three major powers that be currently.  As the name implies, it is a desert reflection, and is just about as inhospitable as one would expect such a place to be.   Pretty much its only redeeming quality is its status as a "Crossroads" reflection.  For whatever reason (studies are still ongoing) travel in this reflection translates at an EXTREMELY beneficial ratio to travel in its neighbors.  Those who know what they are doing can do a month's work of travel (sometimes even more) in as little as a week here.  So long as they manage to survive sentient sandstorms, dust monsters, the searing heat, and whatever other horrors belong in a fantasy desert.  Probably not giant sand worms though.  Because every fantasy desert has giant sand worms.

History

Unfortunately for the natives, this is not a reflection abounding in natural resources, and never really has been.  As such, it has never really "taken off" and become a large power in its surroundings.  There are a few oasis cities, and nomadic tribes that hire out as bandits or mercenaries, depending on their whims.  For the most part this, all driven by trade between outsiders who are simply passing through, has defined the lives of those who are born, live, and die in the sands.  Recently the region surrounding became a part of a series of vicious proxy wars between posturing empires.  Because the Crossroads doesn't have much for marauding armies to burn or eat, it was not ravaged as terribly, however the climate was perfect for the unholy abominations of the Gravedigger who arose in the aftermath of that time.  Eventually an army formed, comprised mostly of the tattered veterans who were the remnants of the past military formations said Gravedigger vanquished.  This force made up 1/3 of The Bloody Purge, and following their crusade its leader (head of the Al-Katar clan) went on to found the first ever reflection-spanning (mostly) government.  At the current point in time this new nation is attempting to establish amicable political relationships with its neighbors, and figure out what to do with its sovreingty exactly.
