This is basically just actually Gruntle from Memories of Ice. He was at some point in his past a traveling caravan guard and mostly solo merc. He led quite a rough life, as this is a very rough path to follow, especially without a larger organization to be a part of. He was able to gain the attention of the newly awakened Trake after stumbling bloodily through a small border skirmish of a war, the only survivor. He is really not a fan of his god, but knows he would not have survived without his gifts, so he puts up with him. He tries to put these new gifts of his to better use than just being a caravan guard, but was still working out how exactly to do that before he died to a Balor underneath a warehouse in the dock district of Korel
