Command Liaison Officer

Command Liaison Officers (CLOs) are field representatives of Earth Space Command who are stationed in bases and on fleets all over the United Republic of Earth and its Colonies. Their duties include seeing that the Command's orders are executed as well as monitoring the smooth functioning of the ECN.

Usually, Command Liaison Officers are in the rank of commander or captain as most of the time their duties are mostly administrative and don't require the full authority of an admiral rank. However, they have a right to speak on the behalf of Earth Space Command and can override orders of fleet commanders when necessary.

Career

Qualifications

Candidates for becoming a Command Liaison Officer must be of at least commander rank and display exemplary conduct. There can't be any major violations on their service record. Additionally, their performance from the Fleet Academy is evaluated. There, the most important thing that is looked at are the grades.

Candidates are also required to go through psychological evaluation. It checks if the candidate is prone to mental breakdowns when under pressure as well as checking if they would abuse their authority.

Payment & Reimbursement

Command Liaison Officers receive the standard pay relate to their rank. Additionally, they are given a bonus of up to 50% of an admiral's pay. It isn't a lot, but enough to live comfortably. With that and some additional bonuses for work performance some CLOs have been known to make quite a fortune. There are even rumours about a CLO who lived very modestly while in service and later went to become a successful buisnessmen. Now, he is said to make billions of dollars.

Perception

Purpose

Command Liaison Officer is a mostly administrative position. CLOs are responisble for ensuring the smooth functioning of the ECN as well as making sure that the orders of Earth Space Command are executed. They also act as the highest authority regarding the law and punishments.

Social Status

CLOs are viewed with respect, but also with suspicion. Many of the fleet commanders don't like the idea of someone being able to override their orders. Especially when that person is technically of a lower rank and otherwise would be their subordinate.

CLOs are also often looked to when a conflict situation between two or more soldiers needs to to be resolved. Liaison Officers are often considered to be impartial. Also, as they speak on the behalf of the Space Command, their verdicts are very hard to overthrow.
