History

The anniversary of the first moon landing has been celebrated on Earth long before the Moon was colonized. It was an event organized regularly by NASA. After the Moon was colonized and the colony of Armstrong was founded, it was decided to move the celebrations there. For many years, the celebrations were small. Only the colony's inhabitants and some officials were present on the Moon. The general population was watching it on TV. As FTL travel was becoming more common and space travel became faster, more and more people were attending the celebrations on the Moon.

Execution

There are a lot of events happening during Moon Day. Two of the most popular ones are the Shadow Show and the Landing Simulation.

Shadow Show

Shadow Show is the main event of the festival. It starts at 20:17 UTC, which is the hour when the Apollo 11's landing module landed on the surface of the Moon. The show tells the story of the first landing. It is made with metal plates which cast shadows on the slopes around Armstrong.

Landing Simulation

One of the most popular attractions of the festival is an Apollo 11 landing module simulator. It allows people to experience the first landing almost like Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin did.

Shadow Show starts in about 20 minutes. We need to go and find good places to watch it. You can try the simulator later

Space food

Throughout the whole festival people can buy food prepared and packaged the way it was done in the late 20th and early 21st century. They are mostly freeze-dried foods and are often made in a way which allows people to squeeze it out of the tube and eat it.
