System Patrol Fleet
Role of a System Patrol Fleet is that of a coast guard or police force. It maintains law and order inside the star system it is stationed in. In that task it relies mostly on corvettes and smaller patrol craft. Such composition allows the patrol fleets to be present in almost every part of a system. Corvettes, equipped with FTL Drives can quickly react to incidents anywhere while the patrol craft are stationed around important planets and stations. Sometimes a system patrol fleet may have a destroyer. It happens mostly when a system is very important strategically or there is a big threat.
Structure
A system patrol fleet is usually commanded by a rear admiral, which is the lowest admiral rank in the ECN. Fleets are usually divided into a few squadrons (4-5, usually). Each squadron is led by a commodore. Commodores are responsible for the everyday affairs of their units and are de facto leaders of the fleet. Rear admiral's position is mostly administrative and they actively command only in a crisis.
