Teba

"Teba is one of the few remaining villages bordering just outside of the Forest of the Forgotten. It should be said that the tenacity of its people is something to be admired. The Forest has been unforgiving, thus far, of anyone challenging its encroachment on the rest of civilization. The villagers have demonstrated a will to fight tooth-and-nail to keep their home secure from anything the Forest throws at them."

Demographics

Power of the Family

Teba's population lives decently from day-to-day where everyone puts forth the effort to help the village thrive. While there is not a vast difference in wealth between individuals, the majority amounts from familial relations. In this way property, goods, and wealth tend to put those in larger families in positions of power.   Tebians are a gruff and fair-skinned folk who have lived from generation to generation in the village. Recently, there has been an influx of darker-skinned persons, but the generational Tebian's have been accepting of the many who have come to call Teba their home.

Government

Ruling Structure

As like most villages, Teba is headed by a chieftain. However, it is unique in that the chieftain is advised and can be overruled by the council of elders.
By Way of Heritage
Typically the chieftain is selected based upon the largest family in the village once the previous chieftain is laid to rest. From there, the family chooses who among their kinsmen would be best suited to lead the village. Overall, the chieftain controls the militia, passes laws, and interacts on behalf of the people with other governing bodies. The power he holds is not absolute, however. There is always the concern for corruption amidst men and therefore, during the founding of the village, it was determined that wisdom should also be a deciding factor in the way the village was run.

The Elders
Each family places one elder in the council in order to help promote diverse ideals that benefit more than one aspect of the village. It seems, however, that only those of the founding families are accepted as elders at this time. The majority vote by the elders can overturn an old law passed by previous chieftain. In order to affect any laws under the current chieftain, the elders must have a vote of over 75% or else the law cannot be changed.

Defences

The side of the village bordering the Forest of the Forgotten has a large barrier made from the trees of Light wood. This wall has proven to be effective in preventing wandering beasts from easily entering.

Industry & Trade

A Relic Economy

Due the frequency of Seekers making their way through Teba, the village has reliquary. At this location, travelers and Seekers alike make trade with the various relics, artifacts, and odditites in exchange for weaponry, money, and other relics that they may find useful on their journey.
