Kyofunoka (Kee-oh-foo-noh-kuh)

Kyofunoka is the hometown of Namina. Located deep beneath the surface of the ocean and situated near a trench which is regarded as off-limits by the leadership in the town. A mostly secluded society purely because of the geography and the methods that must be taken to reach it, though they do not necessarily spern outsiders they just aren't used to seeing them. This city is located on the prime material plane of Taranel, it is not in the Spirit World.

Demographics

The population is entirely Merfolk with outsiders being mere visitors or rescued travelers that fell and sank into the ocean.

Government

Their government is a theocracy based around a High Priestess. The people of Kyofunoka worship Eadro and regard non-believers or worshipers of other religions as heretics.

History

Not a whole lot is known about the history to outsiders, and it is unknown when it was first founded. That being said, the oldest records indicate that Kyofunoka was first discovered by an underwater expedition in 100 Before Calm Era lead by Voldaren researchers in hopes of finding additional allies or artifacts to help in their war effort. The people of Kyofunoka declined the Voldaren's request for assistance in their war suggesting that the landfolk problems are their own.
Most of what is known about the people of Kyofunoka is learned from the merfolk that chose their "land legs" and left the ocean to travel. These merfolk usually become incredibly valuable members to society on the surface due to their abilities and researchers are always eager to ask about the current events of Kyofunoka.

Tourism

Not many tourists are itching to go to Kyofunoka simply because of how out of the way it is. However, the view of the ocean, and the architecture along with just meeting a new culture is a delight to be sure. Usually just magic users or adventurers visit as it does require some form of underwater transportation, water breathing, and depth correction to actually reach without being harmed.
It is recommended if you visit to avoid talking too much about religion, or at the very least to just agree that you worship Eadro as you might be cutting your vacation short otherwise.

Geography

Kyofunoka is located deep in the ocean near an incredibly deep trench. It is surrounded by gorgeous striated rock formations caused by underwater currents, bioluminscent coral, bioluminscent seaweed, and a great variety of underwater creature tends to be swimming nearby. It truly is picturesque and worth the preparation requirements to visit.
