Rice

The Spirit World hosts a variety of different species of rice which can be found and harvested. Each species likely has different colors, textures, growth rates, nutritional benefits and so forth.

Spirit Rice - Spirit Rice was discovered by DAN in the evening of Nurend 05, 308 while looking for plants to add to that day's night breakfast. They were able to harvest the rice and dry it with the aid of Agave's magic, and it was discovered while analyzing this particular species that it seems to be capable of yielding far more grain than normal rice found in the material plane. It was suggested by DAN that it is poisonous to most material plane plants and actually acts as an herbicide, suggesting it could only grow effectively in the Spirit World. That being said, it was consumed greedily by the Spiritual Travelers with their breakfast.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Rice requires a lot of water as pointed out by DAN, and as such the dried grains need to be soaked for several hours before being planted in a damp, slightly acidic soil which also needs to be flooded constantly during the growing periods of the grain.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Rice is a very common grain grown throughout the Gates, different areas will have different species depending on the environment, but the Spirit Rice species found by DAN can be found in most areas that can get damp enough to support its thirst. Thanks to the amazing power of magic, rice is much easier to dry in a fantasy setting, and growing/maintaining new harvests is also much easier.
The Spiritual Travelers have gathered some Spirit Rice and have plans to incorporate it into their future farm.
