Session 1: Something Ancient!
General Summary
Y'all traversed the forest to eventually arrive at the expedition camp described in the fliers found throughout this realm but mostly in your pockets. Here you saw many religious, spiritual, nature-based folk, some scholarly nerd types, some craftsman, all going about their business and having a lovely time at this camp.
You interacted with one of these robed, spiritual lookin folk named Lark for a bit. This lightning-scarred goliath explained a bit about what's going on, who they are, answered your questions...and suggested you speak with Quince if you were hoping to join the expedition. They're still looking for tough adventuring types to finish the gate and hopefully volunteer to enter this strange, new world.
After some time you did finally meet Quince, and he explained that, as Lark mentioned, a final piece to the puzzle is needed: Something Ancient.
He suggested you head to the Garlem mountains as his sources said an artifact that could work is buried in an abandoned goblin village there. He offered you an airship provided by his benefactor, and off you went! Some of you were a bit nervous about this airship ride, but you all made it to your destination safe enough.
On the airship some quality bonding time was had between a few of this new adventuring group. Namina offered to draw people's auras, Kaswink did some wild move on the side of the ship and provided Frode some ingredients for his cooking as an apology for scaring him, Hysteria displayed their troubling aura hiding abilities to Namina, DAN spent a large portion of his time practicing the ancient and respectable art of juggling, and Agave scanned the world below along with its horizon to map the course ahead.
After arriving in this abandoned goblin village you saw that the houses were constructed of solid materials, and the supplies here suggested it was definitely a permanent residence rather than any sort of nomadic home. Some of you explored the area while Hysteria performed a ritual along with the backup dancing of Namina and Dan.
While exploring, Kaswink and Agave found that these homes were all abandoned with very simple and mundane interiors. However, they did find one home with a room full of strange mechanical devices and what Agave saw as a shrine... while attempting to interact with some of the constructs, the two of them thought it best that the rest of the party see them before poking some of the others.
Heading back to the group they found the rest of them still dancing, however, Dan decided to do some exploring on his own and eventually found a small mound of dirt that was less covered in snow than the rest and definitely recently disturbed. That being said, as Kaswink attempted to dig through it, she found it to be as hard as ice due to the cold environment. Agave created a bonfire to help soften the dirt for easier digging while Kaswink pulled a sword that was sitting at the head of this dirt.
After removing this blade the ground began to shake violently, and it continued to grow with intensity as time passed. Frode looked over the dirt and the blade and determined that it was likely being used to mark something else, possibly something more important... possibly even protecting what was below.
The rest of the party continued to hide from whatever was coming, and Kaswink began digging up the now softened dirt. Skeletons began to surround you from all sides, but they were definitely more focused on Hysteria as they were presently holding the sword.
With the dirt removed, Kaswink found some buried, twisted, tangled vines. Prying them apart she found them to be hollow and as good a destination as any to spelunk.
Within these caverns you all found the area to be very gently illuminated by the speckled dirt that covered these roots. Paths leading up, to the right, the left, and noises deep within suggested that you were not alone.
Being ever the braver, Namina called out to the noises, but quickly hid behind the group as the creatures making these sounds made themselves more visible. You all saw, coming into your line of sight, strange dryad-like creatures covered in spikes and being lead by strange dog-like creatures that seemed to be made out of vines as well.
The dryad-like creature approached, and as it grew nearer Hysteria decided to defend the group with a quick Shatter. The dryad fell rather quickly and was dragged back into the depths of these caverns, but the dog-thing lived and more and more creatures began to block the path ahead.
Throughout this, Agave felt the spirit of the plant was similar or...at the very least, similarly in pain to the Blue Agave at the center of his village. Something was troubling these roots, something more than just the scar created by Kaswink to enter the place...
