The Glimmering Worm

Fifty years ago this world was on the brink of becoming another conquest by a multi-verse spanning empire. In an act of desperation this world's greatest magic-users and gods combined their might to revive a beast that ruled when the world was still a barely formed lump of chaos magic: The Glimmering Worm. They succeed at no small cost. The gods were left so weak they needed to slumber in their divine realms to begin to recover. The mortals fared worse: those that did not die were left heavily wounded bodies and minds that could no longer perform even the most basic of magics.   Thankfully the Worm itself did not cause them much more suffering. For the moment the beast finished its first breath in over a hundred-thousand years it charged at the invaders and left its home world behind. The only proof of its existence being The Blood Sea, once the beach head of the conquers, now a putrid lake of blood cracking with the chaos magic of an elder god.   Monsters spawn from the Blood Sea and from Dungeons left by the empire.
