The Salt Must Flow

File: A02
Class: Salt
Location: Balder

[R]   This one isn't as "scary" as its predecessor. I debated adding this little piece of river as a simple footnote to GRF-A01, but I really feel like it's its own anomaly that simply got mixed up in GRF-A01's story. Who knows, maybe this location is the actual GRF-A01 and everything I wrote in that file about the dreamscape is just a bunch of nonsense. Anyway, I decided to give this small anomaly its own file, since I feel it deserves to be studied in the future.   It's simple, no complicated story of one of its victims, no interviews. GRF-A02 is a small bend of the river known as the Knot which runs through the Bearlair Valley. This small stretch of river, about 25 meters in length, runs through the Bearwood close to the northern edge of Balder. Without explanation, for these 25 meters, the flowing sweet water river suddenly turns into salt water. It still flows, yet the salt remains in that same stretch of water. It comes in and goes out sweet.
As mentioned in GRF-A01, I was the one who discovered the body of Margarett Wilson, a student at Balder "Holy Heart" High School and an employee of my landlord, John Hawthrope. She had been badly decomposed, her body half-submerged in GRF-A02, yet stuck behind a tree branch which had been hanging over the river. It wasn't one of my favourite days on the job, but I can't say it was the first time I saw a dead body, and I have seen things much more frightening than dead humans. That's beside the point, though.   Water taken out of GRF-A02 retains its salty property, meaning it could technically be used as an infinite source of salt. Once I get settled and get the foundation going properly, I might return to this place to perform further experiments. For now, though, it will simply remain one of the more bafflingly insignificant anomalies in this valley.   [END OF GRF-A02]

[M]   I'm imagining Richard must have gotten quite busy soon after this because as far as I can tell, he never did update this document any further. A02 still exists, I went there. Attached to the document was a small annotated map pointing out its location, so it wasn't too hard to find. Something not mentioned in Richard's original file is that there is a small rock formation placed on the bank of the inner side of the river's bend. It looks almost like a kind of shrine. It's weird, that's for sure. There isn't much else I can say about it, though.   Just like the physical file for GRF-A01, GRF-A02 has a little piece of paper stapled to it with the alchemical symbol for salt. It seems more applicable here, though I guess the two cases are linked pretty closely. If anything else were to come of this, I'll update this file.
