Chapter 15 Deep Dive
- Brandon and Rodrick stop by the Kitter forge to say hi
- Brandon goes to Dunstan to see what he's working on - a key for mayor's son who is getting married
- Brandon is impressed and says its nice
- Dunstan says they miss Brandon, at least he does
- Dunstan asks if the kambs have been born yet
- Brandon says its too early and asks if Dunstan wants one
- Dunstan says no because his mom would kill him but he'd like to go see them when they're born
- Brandon says he can name one
- Rodrick calls Brandon back
- Kitter wants to take Brandon on for the rest of fall and winter
- Kitter promises to return Brandon to the farm, fat, warm, and safe
- Rodrick mentions that Dec will continue to work for the Thatchers and Pip will work with Young Will Baker
- Rodrick asks when Brandon should start
- Kitter says when ever he can spare him
- Brandon will start again in 3 days time
- Brandon doesn't want to leave home yet

- Mistress Goode tells Kitter to fortify his home against evil

- Brandon has been ignoring her comments for weeks, but is worried about lyches and tells Dunstan so
- Brandon tells him hes never seen a witch in the woods but hes afraid of lyches
- Dunstan tells Branson that he use to be afraid of lyches too at his age but they aren't real only cautionary tales
- Brandon neartly folds his things before going to bed and says hes never been lost in the woods
- Dunstan quips that all Hobsons are half lychs themselves
- Brandon is so offended that he won't look at Dunstan
- Dunstan tells him that his mother is more terrifying than any witch
- Dunstan asks if Brandon remembers his mom
- Brandon says no but his dad and Rick talk about her and Pip and Thomas look like her
- Dunstan wonders why Mistress Goode doesn't mention his mom & wonders if she's afraid of offending the dead
- Brandon doesn't like the idea of his mom as a ghost
- Brandon is practical worried about a real fire threat than a possible lych one
- Next morning rain continues
- Brandon is grateful he isn't cold and wet in the fields, he wishes his brothers could see how warm he was
- 9th day of rain, Rick comes to bring Brandon home
- Rodrick, Rick, and brothers will go to old mill to fix the wall
- Kitter said he heard and was going to go later to see if he can be of help
- Rick thinks it will be 2 days and 2 nights work
- Kitter offers Helena to go with Brandon
- Mrs. Kitter sends extra food
- Rick tells Brandon hes going to be an uncle and asks Brandon to keep it secret
- He wants Brandon to care for the child like Rick took care of him
- They have a quick hug
