Barlubs Species in The Great Dream | World Anvil

Barlubs

When the ship crashed we thought were alone on this little world, but then we saw this little hairy man with little beady eyes looking down at us from a rocky ledge. It was like the creature was staring into our souls.
  • An explorers report of seeing a Barlub
  • Barlubs are hairy goblin-like deamons obsessed with learning the secrets of death. They inhabit small islands in The darkness, and take caves as their shelter. No barlubs live near others of their kind. Magic runes of death, and notes about their work are carved all over the walls of the caves that they live in. On the shelves in their lairs are jars that seem empty but really in the jars are trapped souls that can only be seen by the Barlub that collected them.

    Basic Information

    Anatomy

Barlubs have longer arms than humans, and a flexible tail.

    Dietary Needs and Habits

Barlubs eat large red maggots called althapods that inhabit the islands. The maggots are are a good source of food because there are alot of them.

    Additional Information

    Facial characteristics

The noses of barlubs are usually quite long and the hair around their faces stick out to make a short lion-like mane. The small black beady eyes are the most well known part of a barlub's face, and also probably the most creepy part. A barlubs teeth are like black needles in its mouth, but they are only for gnawing through the thick hide of an althapod.

    Average Intelligence

Barlubs are very wise. One reason they are wise is they live so long, also from speaking to souls.

    Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Barlubs have an incredible sense of smell.

    A Barlubs Staff

Most barlubs are Necromancers who use staffs made from bone. Infused in the staffs are tiny fragments of The Darkness. The barlubs can not become very powerful Necromancers, but they can use it to speak to souls, and collect them. On the staffs are magical runes that hold in The Darkness. There is also usually a skull on the end for decoration. When a barlub is casting a Necromancer spell two beads of red light glow in the skulls empty eye sockets, and whispers of darkness fill the air.

    Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
