Dunwich Militia Military Formation in The Great Dust Bowl | World Anvil

Dunwich Militia

Making up the bulk of the standing forces for the The Dunwich Society, mercenaries and free lancers do most of the dirty work for the organization. Considered expendable, they have the highest casualty rating by several magnitudes over any other Dunwich units. Despite these odds, there are always plenty of new recruits to fill the empty boots left behind by their predecessors. It is the highest paying contractual work in the Dust Bowl without having to do business directly with the slavers.

Usually used as a first reponse team in occupied territories that have become hostile, these soldiers are more concerned with stealth and agility than firepower and direct force. Many choose to do their jobs by sneaking into enemy lines to mark positions for air support. Those that attempt to fight street to street never survive more than a handful of deployments.

Members of the militia have ultimate control over their gear and tactics, only their objectives are set in stone. This results in no two engagements being handled the same way, and despite the chaos this can cause logistically if a large force is deployed, it limits the enemy's ability to anticipate their moves on the battlefield. Long range weapons with telescopic sights are the prefered weapon of choice, both for self preservation reasons and to help avoid as much friendly fire.
