The Fodder Species in The Great Dust Bowl | World Anvil

The Fodder

Victims of the random atomic lottery, many of these poor souls are very much the slow lumbering mutants commonly depicted in pre-war radio broadcasts. Without much sentience, they are doomed to serve masters that respect them so little they gave them a slang term to mean expendable. Often serving as a vanguard for slaver attacks, they are used to probe defenses and soak up munitions.

Almost unanimously cannibals, they are not fed or taken care of in any traditional way. Left to fend for themselves, they drink from irradiated puddles and eat the dead raw to stretch out their miserable existence just a little longer. This often causes further side effects from exposure; just another vicious cycle of the Great Dust Bowl.

Not many are capable of operating anything more complicated than a club, yet there are always exceptions to the rule. Some have learned to thrive in their new role and are granted special status amongst their brethren. They can never be anything but Fodder in their hierarchy however and calling a Corvega City Slaver or Vault 191 mutant this name will immediately cause a fight to the death.

As Characters

Abominations by every measure of the word, they possess even more brute strength than their cousins but lack much if any grace or mental acuity. Use the statistics for a standard super mutant on page 53 and 78 for character creation besides the following adjustments.

Their Strength and Endurance traits begin with a + 1 bonus to each and can be raised to a maximum of 11. Lower maximum Agility and Perception traits to 6, and increase Complication Ranges by two that rely on either of these two SPECIALs. When making any check that relies on Strength or Endurance you may add the first d20 for free.
